Position Title: Louisiana Watershed Flood Center: Research Engineer

Department: 9051|Louisiana Watershed Flood Center

Responsibilities:
The Research Engineer will be expected to support the mission of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Louisiana Watershed Flood Center (LWFC, https://floodcenter.louisiana.edu/).  The roles and responsibilities of the successful candidate include: executing existing research projects, supervision of graduate students, technical management of scientific equipment, production of technical papers, reports and presentations, and participation in writing proposals to generate external funding. The Research Engineer will be expected to perform technical work in areas such as hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood prediction, flood forecasting, and GIS analysis.  The Research Engineer will provide logistical support in the collection of field data as appropriate. In addition, the Research Engineer will participate in the development of research-based, technology driven innovations in hydrology education. 

Qualifications:
PhD or MS degree in hydrology and water resources engineering, or related field. Skills and research expertise are desired in areas such as hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood prediction, geo-spatial analysis, and applications of statistical methods in hydrology. Strong scientific programming skills and use of open-source tools are highly desired. The position requires a broad knowledge base in the areas of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, land-surface modeling systems, spatio-temporal statistical methods, and GIS analysis. Experiences in the use of community-based models such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, the WRF-Hydro system, the National Water Model, and other open-source modeling systems are highly desired. The applicant should show strong abilities in scientific programming using multiple platforms and open-source environments. The position also requires ability to publish scientific papers and participate in development of research proposals. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated professional with sound judgement, excellent interpersonal skills, and the flexibility to adjust to changing priorities.
