Position Title: Communication: Assistant or Associate Professor in Journalism

The Department of Communication, located in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, seeks faculty applications for a tenure-track position in online and print journalism to head the sequence. The ideal candidate will have professional and teaching experience in both the legacy areas of print and photojournalism and more contemporary fields of data journalism, digital production, social media and mobile technology. This candidate will lead the sequence in the major and should demonstrate a record of research and vision that views journalism from diverse, multimedia perspectives. The successful candidate will be skilled in the latest equipment, software and production techniques and be prepared to familiarize themselves with the department's current and future production resources. He or she should be able to work with students online and in person to help them master researching, reporting, writing, producing, directing and distribution skills for journalism content. He or she should be able to advise student organizations and teach courses in digital text, audio, video, multimedia and post-production editing for journalism.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or ABD in the journalism-related discipline and have professional and academic experience in print and digital journalism. Preference will be given to those who have completed their terminal degree. Candidates also should have an online journalism portfolio and record of scholarly activity. Candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations. Applicants are expected to describe their commitment to foster a diverse educational environment through their research, teaching and/or service activities.
